1920s, Romania. After living abroad for several years, young Mihail comes back to his home village to ask for the hand of the newly widowed Elena. The courage to confess his love quickly disappears and Mihail seeks guidance from the village's old priest. Things get complicated when Mihail discovers that Elena has another suitor, Mândru.
