Tabung realises that he must free his fellow villagers from the extortion by loan sharks, Jontro and Sadar. But Tabung, is a cripple, so he gets the help of the Farmer and Fisherman Cooperative Bank. He commutes to the city to handle the villager's credit, and is supported by his neighbour, a war widow. He expects Mardi's assistance, but Mardi is afraid to help for fear of losing his girlfriend, Narsih, who is actually Jontro's daughter. Finally, Tabung establishes the cooperative and the villagers gain the courage to fight off Jontro. Jontro now loses his livelihood so he begins to extort from Mardi, whose parents owe him money. Then Mardi comes to his senses. So does Jontro's right hand, Sadar.
